Harlem Globetrotters

The Press’ Newspapers in Education in conjunction with Van Andel Arena recently held a contest for a Grand Rapids Press Globetrotters student reporter.

Dominik Shingola was the lucky young person chosen to be the student reporter at the Harlem Globetrotters recent basketball game. Below is his interview with “Flight Time” and his report of the game

Thanks Dominik!

My interview was great!

I found out that "Flight Time's" Dad is in the Army just like my brother. He told me to pray for them and I will.

Practice is important. A Globetrotter practices for an hour everyday.
Work on your dribbling and remember to be a good passer too.

"Flight Time" grew up in a small city in Arkansas. His town was so small that there would be more people at a basketball game than there were living in the whole town.

Some advice for young players is what you may want to know. Get a good education and good grades. Remember to be a good sport.

The Chicago Bulls are his favorite NBA team. Michael Jordan is his favorite player. Of course Michael Jordan is now retired from basketball. He likes football too.

Did you know that for nine years, Flight-Time never lost a game? That is because he is on the Harlem Globetrotters.

The Globetrotters won this game against the Washington Generals. It was a win by four points. I never doubted they would win.

Right from the beginning, he did the "shaky bottom" and shot the ball through his legs.

Flight-Time did a funny thing during the game. He took a boys shoes and ran all around the court holding them. Then there was the part when he scored a touchdown in the game. Yes, they mixed in some football with the basketball game. It was fun. Then during the YMCA he threw his
wristband into the crowd.

Sweet-Pea threw water into the crowd, so Flight-Time used a towel to wipe off the aisle. He left the people dripping wet. Everyone laughed.

I want to go back to another game next year.
