WELCOME
to The Grand Rapids Press’ Newspapers in Education (NIE) program. Together, The Grand Rapids Press, area businesses, school administrators, principals and teachers are working in a partnership that benefits all by supplementing the education of our students.

MOTIVATE & EDUCATE
This program provides innovative tools to teachers, students and parents to help motivate students at all grade levels to learn while having fun with real life activities. The daily newspaper can teach about current events, the stock market, math and cost comparison skills, geography and meteorology, history, advertising, environmental issues and much more, all while improving reading and comprehension skills. The ultimate goal of NIE is to encourage today’s children to become tomorrow’s responsible, literate, well-informed, adults.

OUR NIE PROGRAM
The Press delivers more than 15,000 newspapers each week to area classrooms at no cost to educators thanks to the generous support of sponsors. The Press also provides curriculum, support materials, training and workshops to help teachers maximize the benefits of using newspapers.

In summary, the NIE program helps motivate and teach students with a “history-as-it-happens” textbook with local information about their neighbors and their community — the newspaper.

My students look forward to reading The Press. We use it for job searching skills and trends in food service.”
